Alexis Blue oversees the UArizona News website and is editor of the UANow weekly newsletter. She also does media relations and is a senior writer in the office, covering psychology, family and consumer sciences, and social sciences research. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Arizona and worked as a journalist in Southern Arizona before returning to the university.
Logan Burtch-Buus is a news writer primarily focused on general assignments. A Tucson native and graduate of Canyon del Oro High School, he earned a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona. Burtch-Buus worked as a newspaper editor, journalist and photographer in Southern Arizona before returning to the university.
Linda Bylina supports Steve Moore, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, she worked in a similar capacity in the insurance industry. Linda is a Tucson native and attended Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona.
Jason monitors media outlets to identify trends and evaluate coverage of university programs, projects and publications. A “Baja Arizona” native and third-generation Wildcat, he holds a bachelor's in English Literature with a double minor in Economics and Humanities. He spent 15 years working in TV news before moving into public communications.
Catherine Gustafson assists the Director of Web Experience as product owners for the MBM Digital web portfolio, including the flagship website Arizona.edu. Catherine manages the university's central Google Analytics account, reporting out on analytics, as well as conducting usability tests, UX research and QA testing. She leads multi-disciplinary teams through website redesigns, iterations and migrations, by combining this quantitative data and qualitative insights to optimize the user's web experience.
Christie Harper leads the development and deployment of student-focused communications that keep current and prospective students informed about, inspired by and engaged with the University of Arizona throughout their educational journey. In her prior position as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Marketing and Communication, she was responsible for all undergraduate and online enrollment marketing initiatives university-wide.
Arlene Islas manages video and broadcast communications for the university. She previously worked at Arizona Public Media as a television director and producer. Her work has earned several awards including two regional Emmys, three regional Edward R. Murrows, the 2019 national Edward R. Murrow in feature reporting, and four Telly Awards in 2022. A native of Mexico, Islas graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a photography emphasis.
Kelly assists with the oversight and execution of institutional communications directed at internal audiences, ensuring that internal communications are delivered effectively and are in alignment with the University’s purpose and values, and the Strategic Plan.
Mikayla Mace Kelley works with university scientists to share their fascinating research with media and the public in an accessible way. She earned her bachelor's degree in neuroscience and cognitive science with a minor in astronomy and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Arizona. Mace worked as a science, health and higher education news reporter in Tucson before returning to the university.
Marie-Chantale provides strategic counsel and oversight of institutional communications directed at internal audiences, ensuring that internal communications are delivered effectively and are in alignment with the University’s purpose and values, and the Strategic Plan. She creates opportunities to inform, connect and engage internal audiences to help drive culture and inspire advocacy.
Pila Martinez assists the Associate Vice President for External Communications in oversight of the office, including special projects that require collaboration with other entities within or outside of the university. Martinez also is the editor of the Lo Que Pasa employee newsletter and oversees the UA@Work website and the university's Master Calendar. Prior to joining the university, Martinez worked as a reporter at the Arizona Daily Star and The Associated Press.
Kyle Mittan is a news writer covering law, architecture, education and other general assignments. He also assists with media relations. He earned a degree in journalism from the University of Arizona and worked as a reporter at newspapers in Washington state before returning to Tucson.
Nancy Montoya is an award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 40 years of experience. Early in her career, the Arizona native worked at newsrooms in Pittsburgh, Denver, Dallas, Nashville, Charlotte and others. Montoya has earned four Emmys and Columbia University's Alfred I. duPont Silver Baton for her coverage of civil wars in Central America for ABC News. She has produced for PBS, CNN and NBC News. She most recently served as senior reporter for border and immigration issues at Arizona Public Media. Montoya is married to fellow news producer Kirt Ijams.
Andy Ober assists with content development for the Lo Que Pasa employee newsletter and covers business and fine arts for UArizona News and UANow. Before joining the University of Arizona, he oversaw content efforts at Inside Indiana Business, a statewide business news network in Indianapolis. He graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in history with minors in telecommunications and political science.
Nick Prevenas oversees the University of Arizona's external media relations strategies. He produces a daily summary of earned media coverage and analyzes the university's media relations efforts. He updates and maintains the office's media contacts database and also tracks the university's performance across a variety of national and international rankings.
Pam Scott is the Associate Vice President for External Communications, responsible for publicizing the university as a premier institution of higher learning and research. She oversees media relations and assists with issues management. Previously, she worked for a public hotel company where she oversaw media and investor relations, internal communications, crisis communications, guest relations and social media. She has worked for a destination marketing organization, a regional newspaper and affiliates for ABC television and NPR radio.
Daniel Stolte is the senior science writer for the office. Stolte coordinates with university researchers, external funding agencies and partnering institutions and organizations in developing engaging stories that showcase the impact of UArizona science research.
Emily Stulz serves as the new director of social media, overseeing strategy for the flagship University of Arizona social media accounts. In this role, Emily provides guidance and training for staff around the university, creating a cohesive university-wide presence on social media.
Jennise Taylor supports the Vice President for Communications and Associate Vice President for External Communications. In addition, she serves as office manager for the University Communications team and helps keep the office running efficiently. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, she worked in a similar capacity for Sears, Roebuck and Co. Though she grew up in a military family, she considers herself a Tucsonan. She is also a UArizona alumna with a degree in education.
Niranjana Sahasranamam Rajalakshmi is a science writer for the office. She composes stories and news releases by working with university researchers on their intriguing findings. Sahasranamam Rajalakshmi is a graduate of New York University’s Science, Health & Environmental Reporting Program, prior to which she was a veterinary microbiologist.
